2020-2021 EDUPRIZE School Year
Opening Procedures

Welcome Back Eagles!

In addition to the information you will receive from teacher welcome back letters, we’d like to give you some updates about the opening of our school year with every student participating in our Online Hybrid Instruction.

Q: What will Open House look like this year?

A:    Open House will take place virtually this year.  Your child’s teacher will send out a sign up for your child to meet his/her teacher on Monday 7/20/20.

Q: Should I still purchase supplies from the supply list?

A:  Yes, please!  When your child starts online instruction on 7/22, the teacher will ask them to write, color, cut, etc. and they will need supplies to fully participate.

Q: What are my child’s expectations on the first day of school?

A: Your child MUST attend the online virtual meeting with their teacher on 7/22 to be considered enrolled at EDUPRIZE.

Q: What is new with Open House Paperwork?

A:  We now have the capability for you to sign and submit Open House paperwork electronically this year!  Your child’s teacher may ask you for some additional paperwork as well.

Q: What about the questions I have about in-person procedures like carpool?

A: All of that will be sent to you once Governor Ducey’s Executive Order is lifted.

Dear Parents of PreK – 6th Grade Students,

Welcome to the 2020-2021 School Year!  Thank you all for selecting an outstanding education at EDUPRIZE. We all know that this year is going to be a little different, but for us, different will be great! We are committed to a standard of excellence both with safety and with academic integrity, always placing people as our top priority.  As the situation with COVID-19 is extremely dynamic we will continue to make proactive decisions that are grounded in care for our families and staff. Thank you for your patience thus far, and as we move forward. Our award-winning staff has a wonderful year planned and we can’t wait to get started.  In preparation for the new beginnings, there are a few things I would like to bring to your attention so that we are all ready to go on Wednesday, July 22nd.

  • -The first day of school for ALL students is Wednesday, July 22nd. ALL students need to be present during their assigned Virtual Meeting block to be counted as enrolled (see information above)
  • -Open House is Monday July 20th and it will all be done virtually.  Teachers will be sending out a Sign-Up Genius, so that they can meet individually with each student/family, and provide the specifics of how Distance Learning will look for their class. For Distance Learning, we have already planned staggered Virtual Meeting blocks, to help families with multiple children.
  • -For your convenience, all Open House forms, are online and can be electronically submitted.
  • -Until we return to on-campus learning, carpool, hot lunches and extended care will be placed on hold. Once we know our return to campus open date, we will provide more specifics about these topics.

  • As communities continue to struggle to navigate enormous changes in their day-to-day lives, we are committed to ensuring that our EDUPRIZE community will receive the same amazing, child-centered level of service, dedication and love. All of our teachers are incredible and we are very pleased with the many returning teachers from last year as well as the outstanding new teachers joining us!  If your child is placed with a new teacher or one you don’t know, please do not ask for a room change.  Give it time and you will discover yet another extraordinary EDUPRIZE teacher!

It is going to be an especially amazing year at EDUPRIZE!  I am so excited for my second year as Principal, with a vision to strengthen and grow our school into greatness.  I look forward to seeing you when we return in person…hopefully August 17th!

Robin Yeargain

Welcome back, EDUPRIZE Eagles, to the 2020-2021 school year!

My name is Heather Vehon and this year marks my 19th year in education (7th at EDUPRIZE).  I am an Arizona native and attended both Arizona State University for my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, as well as Northern Arizona University where I earned my Master’s Degree in Multi-Cultural Education.  I spent my first teaching years on the Gila River Reservation where I taught 3rd and 4th grades and I also had the opportunity to coach teachers in the area of mathematics instruction. I went on to become an Educational Consultant where I traveled to many schools to provide professional development and school improvement services.  I came back to teaching when my son, Julian, started kindergarten here at EDUPRIZE 7 years ago.

I have loved teaching at EDUPRIZE and I am excited to serve the school for a second year as Dean of Students. I believe that behavior skills, just like academic skills, must be taught, and practiced regularly in order for students to be successful in the classroom.  I am looking forward to supporting the incredible teachers, loving families, and outstanding students at EDUPRIZE as we work together to make this year the best school year yet!
