18-19 7th Grade Teacher Bios

Meet our 7th Grade Team

Matthew Baptiste-Cerra

I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Michigan State University. I then added two Masters of Education to round out my knowledge of learning. Being a teacher has been a plan of mine for quite my entire life – I just took a detour through the corporate world before getting here. I was taught a love for learning and sharing that knowledge from a young age.

I spent the last year teaching 7th grade Science and Mathematics. On our team I am known to be a bit of a “mad scientist” type. Previous years students can attest to my willingness to dive into a topic and have them help build something to demonstrate a particular concept or idea. I am looking forward to an exciting time doing the same again this year. I am a fan of old Steam Locomotives and I have a long running fascination with Far East culture, in particular the Japanese Shogunate and the Chinese Three Kingdoms era. When not at school I enjoy time with my family and trips to Disneyland and Seaworld.

Troy Brown

Welcome to 7th Grade Math and Science! I am Troy Brown and I am excited to lead the way to a great year at EDUPRIZE! Born and raised in Arizona, I graduated from two of our wonderful State Universities with a Bachelor’s Degree and a Law Degree. My wife, also an educator at EDUPRIZE, and I have raised two wonderful children, both of whom attended EDUPRIZE for their elementary education and have continued that successful start through their secondary and college education. As a parent, attorney, and educator over the last 20+ years, I bring my patience, politeness, and experience to the classroom. Having experienced the EDUPRIZE educational environment, both as a parent and as an educator, I am truly happy to be teaching where there is such strong support for the students and teachers from our wonderful parents and administration. I look forward to working with you to truly advance each student’s character and academic abilities this year!

Nicole Cameron

I am so excited to be part of the 7th grade team again this year. This is my 4th year teaching the ELA/ Social Studies part of the 7th grade cohort. I was born and raised in Arizona, but I longed for a change of scenery so I moved to Utah for several years. I graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Elementary Education. While I loved the beauty of the four seasons in Utah, I sure don’t miss driving in the snow! I have four children ages 18, 15, 13, and 11. I love to be outside hiking, camping, or playing sports like softball or volleyball. My biggest passion is reading and I have books absolutely everywhere! I love maps, singing to my students, and making really bad puns! Bring me tootsie rolls and I will remember you forever. 🙂

Chase Gibson

I am a proud 5th generation Arizona native. I attended Arizona State University and received my bachelor’s degree in Geography. I started teaching GIS (Geographic Information Systems) at EDUPRIZE in 2015. I was the school’s very first bus driver and I help out with study hall as well. This year will be my 2nd year teaching 7th Grade Social Studies. I enjoy maps and mapping, geography, baseball (Go Dbacks!), family history, religious studies, video games and board games, biking and most of all -spending time with my wonderful wife and son. I look forward to another great year at EDUPRIZE!

Ms. Martha Goding – Bachelor of Science / English Language Arts/ 504 Coordinator/JH Lead Advisor

I am excited to be teaching 7th grade ELA again next year. I will be teaching part-time and then coordinating 504’s (K-12), as well as Child Study Team Coordinator for grades 7-12. I am looking forward to challenging the students and teachers to create a dynamic learning environment and a close knit community. I have been teaching for 37 years and knew that I wanted to be a teacher from the time I was in 6th grade. It was my desire to make a difference in lives of students and help them become better people. The inspiration came from watching my amazing mom who passed on her legacy of love for children and teaching. I have been at EDUPRIZE for 21 years now. I am an identical twin, and a mom of two wonderful sons. I am an animal lover and enjoy all kinds of nature. In my spare time, I love to travel, hang out with friends, bake, make cards, or curl up with a nice cup of coffee and read a good book.

Pedro Rodriguez

Meet Pedro Rodriguez, the new 7th Grade Social Studies/English Language Arts Teacher at Eduprize Gilbert. Mr. Rodriguez is a published political historian and legal research analyst, with a Master’s degree from Arizona State University’s School of Social Transformation.

His favorite historical period is the Vietnam War Era, and he believes coffee should be served hot, never iced.

Brooklyn Skinner

Hello! I am excited to be joining the staff at EDUPRIZE, and am privileged to be teaching 7th grade math and science. Growing up in Montana has given me an appreciation for the outdoors. I enjoy spending time at the lake, in the mountains, or out on the river floating.

Last summer I spent time exploring in Seattle, and decided it was time to experience something different, so I decided to move to Arizona!

I graduated from Montana State University, with a Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education K-8. The last two years I have taught 5th grade at a K-8 school, and coached middle school volleyball, and track. I look forward to exploring my new surroundings in Arizona, and meeting everyone!
